John is both the founder and President of Benefit Specialists, Inc. He has been in the employee benefits field for over twenty five years as a carrier representative with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and as a broker. John grew up in Pine City, MN and graduated from St. John's University in Collegeville, MN, where he was the captain of the football team and played on a NCAA National Championship team.
John is currently a member of several local community and service organizations. He is a member of the Minnesota and National Association of Health Underwriters, and has attained the professional designation of Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) and Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC). He is currently on the MAHU Board of Directors and a member of the MAHU Legislative Committee. He is also a member of the Parish Council at the Church of St Joseph in Rosemount, MN.
John is also a founding member of a group of Twin City brokers called the Professional Resouce Group (PRG). PRG members represent twelve organizations that network and consult with each other to bring you excellent council on the evolving trends and solutions in our rapidly changing employee benefits market. This group of brokers represents over 2000 employers with more than 250,000 members. The annual employee benefits premium that PRG members service totals more than $750 million.
John is a husband and the father of two teenage children. He spends his free time coaching football and basketball, plus he likes to golf, read and follow politics, especially healthcare related issues.
